New Scrotal EPD
The
CSA is pleased to announce the
release of a new genetic selection tool to positively impact male
fertility. The new Scrotal Circumference EPD (SC) uses scrotal
circumference measurements from valid contemporary groups of bulls
measured in herd test and test station situations and combines it with
related growth information to assess genetic merit for scrotal size.

New Registration
Requirements on Import Animals
A recent CSA Board of Directors decision has resulted
in policy that it is the responsibility of the importer/purchaser to
provide documentation to prove the animal meets the requirements of the
CSA herd book. This documentation must include the official Simmental
fraction (e.g. 28/32, 30/32, 32/32) and applies to all imported animals
. In particular, producers purchasing bulls from the United States
should be aware of differences that exist between Canada and the United
States in the percentage of Simmental required to qualify for purebred
status. The Canadian Simmental Association requires a male to be 30/32
Simmental to reach purebred status while the American Simmental
Association accepts males who are 28/32 Simmental as purebred. It is the
responsibility of the importer/purchaser to ensure that these bulls meet
the requirement of being 30/32 Simmental if they wish to register that
animal in the Canadian Simmental herd book as a purebred.
