CE/MCE EPD – calving ease and maternal calving ease EPD are now on a 10 point scale (0-10). Members are strongly encouraged to look at the percentile ranks associated with the EPD to get a feel for where sires can be used most appropriately.
EF EPD – we have had some calls regarding EPD with “EF” accuracy values. EF EPD are based strictly on the breed average EPD for the birth year of the parents and contain no inherent pedigree or performance information from the individual. For example a Calf with a sire born in 2005 and a dam born in 2003, with no other information would receive EF EPD that are the average of the Simmental cattle in the evaluation that were born in 2005 and 2003 respectively.

REGISTRY INFORMATION
THE HERD LETTER FOR 2010 IS "X"

Online Simmental.com Users Embryo Procedures:

1) Ensure that you have entered the Embryo calf into our Herdbook (via your Online system).

Important calf entry-note: The embryo “entry box” should be answered as Yes. That way it allows you to enter the Tag (the - Complete Tattoo: if the recip is a registered Simmental dam), the Birth Year (BYR), and the Breed Make-up (e.g. if Simmental: SMSMSMSM, if Angus/cross: ANANXXXX)

2) Print-off a “THE Embryo Data & Registration Form” from the Downloads-section of our Simmental website www.simmental.com

3) Complete the form, separating the embryo calves by “flush”. Since our embryo Bylaw states that only 1 embryo from each flush must be Parentage Verified (PV) – you must indicate “Y” in the DNA box for the embryo you wish to take a hair sample from. Then, we can order the parentage kit and provide you with the required Application Form and sample envelopes.

4) Lastly, when returning the “THE Embryo Data & Registration Form” you must send copies of the Embryo Transplant Forms. It helps if you write the tattoo of the resultant embryo beside the appropriate Recip Dam on the form (as it helps us manually track the embryo activity for that particular Flush).

YCSA NEWS
Thank You to Westgen
The YCSA would like to Thank WESTGEN, for their generous donation of $1400.00 to the YCSA program.  These funds will be used to support new initiatives in the YCSA program.

" Westgen, the western Canadian partner in the Semex Alliance, markets the Semex sire line-up and a full line of AI supplies to beef and dairy producers.  Westgen is the only western Canadian farmer owned AI Company, and financially supporting beef and dairy industry initiatives is one of their major priorities.  Since 2004, the Westgen Endowment Fund had distributed investment returns back into the cattle industry to support useful research, extension/education and youth development projects totaling more than $800,000.

In the spring of 2009 all beef producers who purchased semen from Westgen triggered donations to the junior breed associations, paid for by the Westgen Endowment Fund.  This fundraiser raised a grant total of $4000.00.  Funds were disbursed proportionate to breed sales.

The Westgen Endowment Fund is pleased to provide meaningful financial support directly to junior breed associations.  Westgen knows that the Junior Simmental Association is a great program that has a lasting positive impact on hundreds of farms kids and, in turn, benefits our industry.  They are pleased to play a small part.

Sincerely
James Janssens
Westgen President
WEF Chairman "

2010 WORLD SIMMENTAL CONGRESS IN AUSTRALIA - DETAILS NOW AVAILABLE

WSC2010 Program   WSC2010 Registration & Booking

Invitation to Attend

Dear Breeders,

Australia will host the World Simmental Congress in Melbourne in September 2010.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you, your partner, friends and industry colleagues to attend the 2010 Simmental World Congress.

Many international and Australian delegates are expected to attend this important event to increase their knowledge of Simmental cattle and the Australian beef cattle industry. The Congress and the pre and post Congress tours will include a range of activities to inform and entertain delegates.  It will also cover topics on innovations in cattle genetics, stud and commercial herd breeding, product quality, management technology and marketing.

The Congress will be held in conjunction with the Simmental Feature Breed Judging at Royal Melbourne Show. A special Congress feature will be an International Young People’s Program.

We invite you to enjoy the Welcome Reception, interactive networking sessions, a Congress dinner, a themed Australian farewell dinner, partners program during the Congress and other tour events.

In addition, the overall Congress program will provide a memorable rural Australian experience and an insight into Australia’s hidden wonders and attractions as delegates journey through a diverse range of terrain, cultures and environments.

We look forward to welcoming you to the 2010 Congress.

Kind regards,
Bill Almond, Chairman, 2010 World Simmental Congress
