HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE CSA
With the holidays fast approaching, the CSA would like to take this opportunity to wish their members, industry partners and the Simmental community all the best this holiday season.  May 2009 be a year filled with happiness, joy and prosperity for all.

CSA OFFICE CLOSED FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Please note the CSA office will be closed on December 25th & 26th, and on December 31st at noon, reopening on January 5th.

CSA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The Canadian Simmental Association Annual General Meeting was held in Regina, SK, on Thursday, November 27th, in conjunction with the Grand Finale of the 40th Anniversary of Simmentals in Canada Celebrations, and Agribition.

It was an exciting event from start to finish and a great showcase for Simmental. The Simmental show and sale were great successes and comments were received from commercial producers on how they were impressed in the changes they saw in the Simmental breed.

All comments were positive towards the events of the AGM and although it was a jam packed day we were still able to conduct the Association’s business in due course and in proper fashion.

The banquet was very well attended with around 240 people.  Thank You to the Saskatchewan Simmental Association, their members and volunteers for organizing such a great event.  It was a great time had by all.

The Foundation Auction was also a huge success raising approximately $13,000. That combined with the Royal Winter Fair Foundation Auction total, held in Toronto, adds over $20,000 to the Foundation account which is double last year’s total. Congratulations to the CSA Foundation Auction Committee and thanks to all for their hard work.

It was wonderful to see such a great turnout at these meetings, and the CSA would like to thank all of the members who were able to take the time to attend these meeting and participate in the activities surrounding the meetings.  Also, thank you to the members who were unable to attend and who sent their proxies.  Your active participation in these meetings is what keeps the Breed alive and moving towards the future.

REGISTRY INFORMATION

Blood Typing at Veterinary Genetics Laboratory Discontinued
As of December 15, 2008, the Veterinary Genetics Laboratory (VGL), Davis, California, will be discontinuing their blood typing test service. If you have any animals that need a blood typing to complete their parentage verification (older embryos, for example), please contact the CSA office immediately. Samples must be received by the lab no later than December 15 in order for this test to be carried out.

Online Total Herd Enrollment Procedures
Please follow the steps below to ensure that your females are enrolled prior to the deadline date of – December 15, 2008.

Step 1
1. Go into My Herd, My Inventory
2. Change the Display Year to 2009 & click the “change” button
3. This will display a Pre-Posting Inventory listing with the word “Dispose” beside
each active female in your herd
4. This allows you to cull/dispose any females that you do not want enrolled in
     the 2009 assessment year

Step 2
Ensure that you go through each page of females before clicking the POST button at the bottom of the last page (note: only click the POST button once). This will enroll the remaining females on the My Pre-Posting Inventory list. (Page numbers are shown at the bottom the list.)

Step 3
You can now enter your 2008 breeding dates under each enrolled female as you will now see the word “Update” beside each female.

Use of Imported Semen

If you are using AI sires from outside of Canada, please check with the importer or CSA office to ensure the bull has been entered into the CSA herdbook.

YCSA NEWS
Happy Holidays
The  YCSA would like to wish their members, families, volunteers and supporters all the best this holiday season.  May the Spirit of Giving Touch Your Holidays!

Thank You

The YCSA would like to thank all those involved with the CSA Foundation Auctions.  Thank you to the individuals, breeders and businesses who donated to these great events, and thank you to those bidders and buyers who make these events so successful.  Without the support of all these individuals, these events would not be possible.

Thank you, as well, to the CSA and the CSA Foundation for their continued support to the YCSA.  Without their leadership, support and encouragement, the past, current and future members of this program would not be who they are today.

New Members
The YCSA board of directors is starting to plan for another exciting year in 2009.  To learn how you can become more involved, or for further information please contact Emily Grey, YCSA Coordinator, or one of the YCSA board members.  They would love to hear from you.
