Now is a good time to be thinking about organizing ultrasound scans on your 2009 calf crop. Scans are accepted between 320 and 430 days of age and must be conducted using the Ultrasound Guidelines Council protocol. A list of Canadian technicians is available on their website at www.ultrasoundbeef.com. Click on the Technicians link on the left hand side.

The CSA carcass rebate program is also still in effect and provides an account credit for each valid ultrasound record submitted to the CSA. Ultrasounding of yearling seedstock provides a very good indication of the relative carcass merit of their progeny and data is included in the CSA genetic evaluation to generate carcass EPD.

REGISTRY INFORMATION
Total Herd Enrollment 2nd Installment Billing OCTOBER 1:
Members with credit cards on file with CSA – please note the 2nd half of your THE fees owing will be processed at the time of billing.

Members without credit cards on file, invoices will be mailed to you detailing the 2nd installment billing. The 2nd installment billing is payable upon receipt of your invoice.

Credit Card Users:
Please ensure your credit card information is current in the office. If your card expires or you change numbers, please contact the office so we can continue to process all your work with no delays.
Online.Simmental.com users are required to keep a credit card on file with the CSA.

Requesting Registration Papers – Total Herd Enrollment Participants:
If you don’t require registration papers for upcoming shows or sales, it is recommended you wait until you submit all of the pertinent performance weights before asking for the registration paper. That way, if the animal(s) stay in your ownership name you don’t have to request an updated paper showing all the performance weights. Thus, saving yourself the $5.25 – Certificate Update Fee.

Import Animals:
I
f you are unsure of the fraction on an import animal or foreign AI sire, please call the CSA Registry Department to help you research it. Members purchasing bulls/semen from the United States should be aware of differences that exist between Canada and United States in the Percentage of Simmental required to qualify for purebred status. The CSA requires a male to be 15/16 Simmental to reach purebred status while the ASA accepts 7/8 males as purebred. You can find the fraction guide under CSA Policy Library – Upgrading Table.

YCSA News Makers
The CSA is proud to share the accomplishments of our YCSA members.  Youth members learn a great many developmental skills though their involvement with this program and credit their success to the lessons they've learned through the YCSA and the experiences they have had. If you have a story that you would like to share, please send it to Emily Grey or Margo Cartwright.  We know there are more stories out there, and would like to feature as many as possible.
