CSA ANNOUNCES NEW PR/MARKETING SPECIALIST

The Canadian Simmental Association (CSA) is pleased to announce that Joe Barnett is joining its team as a marketing and public relations specialist. The appointment is effective June 4th and will be based in Calgary.

“We are very pleased to welcome Mr. Barnett,” says CSA General Manager Dale Kelly. “He brings a unique skill set and leadership qualities that I know will serve our breed very well, support our efforts in the commercial sector and make the breed and genetics even more recognized for their quality.”

Barnett and his family operate a commercial and purebred Simmental herd with 300 cows near Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He has a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota and has been working in education in the US since graduating in 2005. He was named to the list of Who’s Who Among America’s Universities and Colleges the year he graduated.

“I am very excited to be joining the CSA,” says Barnett. “I have spent my entire life around Simmental cattle and now feel like I have come full circle to be in a position where I am able to serve a breed that has done so much for me.”

Barnett was been an active participant in the Canadian Simmental Youth program and was the 2006 World Simmental trip award winner. He was also a World Simmental Congress Young Breeders Forum participant and served as a director and president of the Saskatchewan Young Canadian Simmentalers.

As part of his duties, Barnett will be overseeing all breed marketing initiatives, including Simmental Country and Commercial Country, and will be the commercial industry ambassador for the Association and breed at major sales and events across the country.

“I am really looking forward to getting started and making some valuable connections with people across the country and in every facet of the livestock industry.”

Barnett replaces Alana Lunn who left the association to pursue new business opportunities at the end of March 2007 after five very successful years building the Simmental brand in the commercial beef industry.

REMINDER ON TRANSFERRING BULLS

Simmental is once again enjoying the benefits of a strong and successful spring bull sale season! The CSA would like to remind you of the importance of transferring your bulls. A registration paper is an excellent promotional tool for Simmental genetics, plus transfers on all animals sold for breeding purposes makes statistics more accurate. Every commercial buyer who has a bull transferred to him/her receives a free issue of the Commercial Country. This publication has proven to be increasingly successful in promoting Simmental genetics in the commercial industry.

INFORMATION FOR ON-LINE USERS

Embryos Calves: Members entering Embryo calves through Online Simmental must fax/mail copies of the Embryo Transplant/Flush Forms and indicate the tattoo of the resulting calf beside the proper Recipient Dam.

December-born calves: At times, calves are born earlier (prior to the New Year). Thus, our system does not know that we are to use the enrollment flag from the following enrollment year. For this reason, it is important for the Online users to contact our office prior to registering the December-born calf so we can “flag” the enrolled dam correctly. This way, the Registry staff does not have to adjust your billing at a later date.

Ultrasound Sheets: can be printed through Online Simmental. Log into your account and go to My Reports/Ultrasound/Barnsheet. Indicate the calf crop year that will be scanned, and print. You may also call the office and request that we print and fax to you.

NOTICE FOR NON-THE PARTICIPANTS

Application for Registration Forms (Non-THE participants) are not to be used to record the calves that are born for a current calf crop year. Please complete them only if a registration paper is required for an animal.

DNA REMINDER
Do all your herd sires have DNA on file? If not, please call/email our office today to request a DNA form.
