REGISTRY AND MEMBER SERVICES NEWS

THE Participants
EPD Evaluation deadline is October 15, 2007.  To ensure your weaning data is included in the fall EPD evaluation, please submit your weaning weights prior to this date.

Total Herd Enrollment Billing
The 2nd installment for the 2007 enrollment will be processed on Monday, October 1st. The invoices detailing the billing will be mailed to each THE participant within the first week of October.

Online Registrations
As most of you know, the CSA office has recently moved to an invoice-based billing system.  Because of this, we wanted to alert you to some changes you may be noticing.  When an online user registers an animal(s), an invoice is created for that CSA member account to bill the transactions incurred for that specific online session. Thus, if you are logging in a number of times each day to register your animal(s), an invoice will be opened for each session. This will result in receiving more than one invoice along with your registration papers.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call the office.

ALBERTA BEEF QUALITY STARTS HERE HIRES PROVINCIAL CO-ORDINATOR
Eileen Leslie, from Medicine Hat, Alberta; has been hired as the Alberta provincial coordinator for the national Verified Beef Production program. Reporting to Alberta Beef Quality Starts Here, a provincial association comprised of beef industry stakeholders, Leslie is charged with increasing the number of cow/calf and feedlot producers certified on the on farm food safety program.

No stranger to the cattle industry, Leslie’s past experience includes working as an animal health technician, operating a cow/calf ranch near Maple Creek, SK with her husband, underwriting insurance for farm operations with The Cooperators, and most recently was a livestock marketing coordinator for Pfizer Animal Health. “I’m very interested in helping beef producers take credit for the good work they already do in regards to food safety,” says Leslie, “we owe it to ourselves as an industry to ensure that both domestic and international customers understand our diligence in producing a safe product.”

Pat Burrage, DVM and Chairman of Alberta Beef Quality Starts Here adds; “Alberta has been looked upon as a leader in the beef on-farm food safety initiative and we’re confident that Eileen will continue to drive this program forward. In the fall of 2006, changes were made to the program to simplify the requirements for certification. A number of "must do" requirements were reduced to "highly recommended", resulting in less paperwork, simpler auditing procedures and more flexibility. The program focus remains on food safety; primarily drug residues and broken needles."

For more information about the program and certification requirements, please call Eileen at 1-866-242-7404.

Verified Beef Production is a national cattle industry initiative created to help implement and verify good production practices on-farm that minimize food safety risks. Program information can be found at www.verifiedbeef.org

This program is similar to food safety programs being implemented in other national agriculture commodities, as part of the Canadian On-Farm Food Safety Program.
