Reminder #1
Do your bulls have a DNA sample on file as per CSA By-laws regarding
natural service sires?
You can phone, fax or email the office for a DNA kit.
If
this is taken care of prior to putting your bulls out to pasture, it will
eliminate delays in the papering of your calves and eliminate the
possibility of your calves not being eligible for registration if a bull
dies before a DNA sample is taken.
The By-Law in regards to natural service sires does not require that
the bulls be parentage verified. The type of test you would request on
your natural service sires would be a BTF (Type on File). If you wish
further testing be done in regards to a sire or dam verification, please
indicate this when requesting the kit.
If you are drawing semen on a bull (whether it be for in-herd use or
sale), the bull must be parentage verified as per CSA By-Laws in order for
progeny to be registered. It is important when requesting DNA kits on AI
bulls that you indicate the type of test you are requesting as a PCB
(Parentage verification to both sire & dam).
Remember – It is your responsibility to ensure that the bulls you
are using have a DNA sample on file. The "DNA/Bloodtyping Status" appears
on the registration certificates of the bulls that you have purchased as
of the date the certificate was issued. If there is nothing on the
certificate indicating that the bull has a DNA sample on file, please
contact the office for a kit.
*Type of Test BTF – Type on file (minimum requirement for natural
service sires) PCS – Parentage verified to sire PCD – Parentage verified to dam PCB – Parentage verified to both sire & dam (minimum requirement for AI
bulls)
